Airdrie voters have spoken!
In the Mayoral race, Councillor Heather Spearman was elected with 5,291 votes, defeating former Councillor Tina Petrow, who received 4,331 votes.
For City Council, voters chose six representatives: Ron Chapman led the field with 5,834 votes, followed by Candice Kolson with 5,592, Chris Glass with 4,712, Kristen Shima with 4,325, Simisola Obasan with 4,093, and Chad Stewart with 3,982.
This means that just three of the previous Council are returning - Chapman and Kolson as Councillors and Spearman as Mayor.
Longtime Mayor Peter Brown did not run for re-election, Councillor Petrow lost in her bid for Mayor, and Councillors Darrell Belyk and Al Jones failed to get re-elected to Council.
Overall, Airdrie’s election brings a mix of continuity and new perspectives.
As Mayor Spearman and the new Council members take office, the coming months will show how this team works together to meet the city’s challenges and deliver results for residents.
Airdrie’s next council will be tasked with addressing key priorities, including fiscal responsibility, maintaining services, and supporting local growth and development.
One thing is certain - Airdrie voters are expecting leadership that listens, acts decisively, and prioritizes practical solutions for the city.
