The library aims to raise $1.5 million to double its collection of lendable items, including books, early literacy kits, video games, and more. The facility will be 53,000 square feet, significantly larger than the current library, which has served 202,209 visitors and lent out 652,150 items in 2023. Donations are being collected online, with options for personalized recognition for contributors. As of August 27th, the library raised $810,181 towards its goal.

This new field will serve as the home venue for all three of Airdrie’s high school football teams.

Last Week In Airdrie:

  • The federal government announced that the new Public Lands for Homes Plan includes a property in Airdrie, located at 128 1 Street Northwest, for potential housing development. This site is part of the Canada Public Land Bank, which aims to address the national housing crisis by making federal lands available for development. The plan includes a mix of long-term leases and discounted rates to encourage affordable housing projects.

  • The City of Airdrie and the Airdrie Pride Society (APS) have collaborated to install a permanent rainbow path at Nose Creek Park. The City covered the $3,500 cost for asphalt preparation, while APS funded the $20,000 for materials and installation. The project was approved by City Council in May 2022.

  • Calgary's water usage remains above target despite stage four restrictions, with recent consumption at 487 million litres per day, which could impact the water supply before repairs are completed. Airdrie, affected by these restrictions, is under level four water use limitations, prohibiting outdoor watering, surface washing, and vehicle cleaning. Residents are urged to conserve water indoors and businesses are asked to reduce non-essential water use. Airdrie’s Parks department will start winterizing irrigation systems this week. The repairs to Calgary’s water feeder main are expected to be finished by September 23rd.
