The Community Safety and Social Services Committee meets tomorrow at 9:00 am, and one of the items on its agenda is the annual Municipal Enforcement update. Airdrie's Community Peace Officers have issued 1,706 tickets and 562 warnings so far this year, averaging 426 tickets a month, while overall enforcement calls climbed from 318 in January to 424 in April. The update outlines several new initiatives, including a Community Youth Engagement Officer position now being hired to work in schools and patrol youth areas, joint after-hours operations with the RCMP targeting loud and dangerous vehicles on streets such as 8th Street and 40th Avenue, an e-scooter education campaign, and free child seat inspections on June 14th and 21st. The report is presented for information only.

Also on tomorrow's agenda is a final report on the Building Safer Communities Fund, the roughly $1-million federal grant Airdrie received from Public Safety Canada to combat gun and gang violence, which ran from early 2024 to March 2026. The money funded two youth initiatives, a staff-training framework branded "The Airdrie Way" and Positive Directions, a wrap-around support program for at-risk youth aged 11 to 18. Positive Directions has supported 19 youth, closing 11 files with 5 youth completing their goals, while 3 were referred elsewhere and three disengaged. With the federal grant now complete, Positive Directions will continue operating with 1 social worker and 1 RCMP officer through the end of 2026. Administration says the cost of sustaining both initiatives will be brought into Council's 2027 budget deliberations.
- The Committee will also be asked tomorrow to approve a $7,500 community grant to Airdrie Meals on Wheels for a volunteer appreciation initiative, an application that was nearly missed because of a City technical failure. When the organization inquired about the status of its grant application on May 13th, Administration could not locate it, and the City's IT department later determined that a back-end error had prevented the application from ever reaching Social Planning during the official intake window. Administration confirmed the applicant had completed its submission on time and that no other applications were affected, and is recommending the grant be approved after the fact. The money comes from the already-approved 2026 family and community support services budget, so it carries no new cost.
- The City of Airdrie is holding its first-ever Mayor and Council Town Hall at the Bert Church Theatre on Monday, June 18th at 6:30 pm. Mayor Heather Spearman will present on City issues, projects, and priorities, followed by a question-and-answer session and a meet-and-greet with Councillors and City Staff, with department representatives on hand to field questions on property taxes, recreation facilities, and water services. Residents can submit questions in advance or ask them in person, free childcare is available at Genesis Place for those who register, and the presentation will be recorded. Spearman said affordability, property taxes, and City services are expected to dominate the discussion, and that she hopes the event becomes an annual one.

Airdrie-East MLA Angela Pitt travelled to New Orleans to represent Alberta at the National Conference of State Legislatures Task Force on Energy Supply, meeting US state legislators to promote Alberta energy exports. Pitt said Alberta has an estimated 137-year supply of energy resources and framed the trip as reinforcing North American energy security. The Province highlighted long-standing ties with Louisiana, a customer for Alberta oil, refined petroleum, and chemical exports shipped worldwide through the Port of New Orleans, and noted Alberta is an affiliate member of the conference. Mission expenses will be posted on the provincial travel and expense disclosure page.
